WHY USE ANOINTING OIL?

What the Bible says...

Consecration - The first instance of using oil to anoint was Jacob (Genesis 28:18; 35:14) to consecrate a stone or spot to the Lord. Under the Mosiac Law persons and things were set apart for sacred purposes by anointing with the oil of Holy ointment (Exodus 30:23-26); (anoint yourself, family, garments, household articles and items, automobile, etc.).

*Fun fact: Our oil was used to anoint the King of Hope Radio transmitter in Lebanon (George Otis, High Adventure Minitries) now broadcasting the Gospel of Jesus Christ into Israel and many Middle East countries.

It was custom among the Jews to anoint those set apart as Kings (1Samuel 10:1-6, 16-13; Isaiah 61:1).

Anointing with oil is a symbol of endowment with the Holy Spirit of God. (1 Peter 2:9). "But we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light."

Healing - Mark 6:12-13 speaks of the disciples "and they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."

James 5:14-15 (LB) - "Is anyone sick? He should call for the elders of the church and they should pray over him and pour a little oil upon him, calling on the Lord to heal him, for the Lord will make him well; and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him."

1 Peter 2:24 - "by whose stripes ye were healed."

Isaish 53:5 - "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with His stripes we are healed."

Olive Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit since the day of Pentecost, the Spirit of the Living God has been poured out upon all flesh (Joel 2:28-29, Acts 2:14-47) "and it shall come to pass in the last days , saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh..."

Anointing oil is the ministry of touching - a gift of love and hope. Let us go forth and minister one to another in the Love of Jesus with praise and thanksgiving unto the Lord.
